Puerto Banús: everything you need to know about Marbella’s famous marina

Geert & Martine, makelaars aan de Costa del Sol sinds 2018 · 18 October 2026

Puerto Banús is probably the best-known marina in Spain. Superyachts, Ferraris on the quayside, designer boutiques and restaurants where you go to see and be seen: this is Marbella at its most jet-set. But Puerto Banús is more than a tourist magnet. Around the marina lie some of the most sought-after residential areas on the Costa del Sol. In this guide you’ll find everything about visiting, living and buying in Puerto Banús.

Where is Puerto Banús?

Puerto Banús lies in the municipality of Marbella, around six kilometres west of the town centre, at the end of the Golden Mile. It borders Nueva Andalucía, which stretches inland towards the mountains. From Málaga airport the drive takes around 45 minutes to an hour. Read more about getting there in our guide Airports near Marbella.

A short history

The marina was built by developer José Banús and opened with great fanfare in 1970 in the presence of international celebrities and royalty. The concept was unique: a marina built like an Andalusian village, with white houses and apartments around the water. Since then, Puerto Banús has grown into a global symbol of luxury. The marina has more than 900 berths, including moorings for yachts over fifty metres long.

What to do in Puerto Banús

Stroll along the quayside

Come in the late afternoon, stroll past the yachts and watch the sun set behind the mountains. It’s free and always a spectacle.

Shopping

Along the quayside and in the streets behind it you’ll find boutiques from international fashion houses. On the edge of the marina is a branch of El Corte Inglés, Spain’s largest department store. For everyday shopping and more stores, there are several supermarkets and shopping centres in Nueva Andalucía and San Pedro.

Food and drink

From sushi and steakhouses to Italian and Spanish restaurants, the choice is huge. On the quayside you pay for the view. One street back, you often eat better and for less.

Nightlife

Puerto Banús is the nightlife hub of Marbella. Bars, lounges and clubs stay open into the early hours, especially in summer.

Beach and boat

Next to the marina are beaches with beach clubs. From the marina you can charter a boat, take a catamaran trip or go sailing along the coast.

Living in Puerto Banús

Living in Puerto Banús means living at the heart of Marbella life. Around the marina you’ll mainly find luxury apartments and penthouses, often overlooking the yachts or the sea. A little further out lie the villa neighbourhoods of Nueva Andalucía, with golf courses such as Los Naranjos, Las Brisas and Aloha.

  • Pros: everything within walking distance, beach, restaurants, shops and an international atmosphere. Ideal as a second home and strong for rentals.
  • Cons: busy in July and August and lively until late at night. If you’re after peace and quiet, a complex just outside the marina or in Nueva Andalucía is a better choice.

How much does property cost in Puerto Banús?

In September 2026 the average asking price in Puerto Banús was around €7,500 per m² (idealista), making it one of the most expensive areas of Marbella. A 120 m² apartment therefore costs around €900,000 on average, but apartments on the quayside, penthouses with large terraces or homes in the most exclusive complexes are considerably more. Rents are high too: the average asking rent was around €26 per m² per month.

The best complexes and neighbourhoods around Puerto Banús

  • On the marina and the beach: exclusive apartment complexes with direct access to the sea and the quayside.
  • Between the marina and the Golden Mile: quieter complexes within walking distance of the marina.
  • Nueva Andalucía: villas and apartments in the golf valley, a five-minute drive away.
  • Aloha and Las Brisas: established villa neighbourhoods with golf and international schools nearby.

Is an apartment in Puerto Banús a good investment?

Thanks to its worldwide fame, demand for property in and around Puerto Banús remains strong, both to buy and to rent. That makes it one of the most liquid property markets on the Costa del Sol. Do pay attention to the rules on holiday lets, the community fees and the exact location: an apartment above a nightclub is a very different proposition from one with sea views in a quiet complex.

Puerto Banús through the seasons

In summer Puerto Banús is at its liveliest, with superyachts from around the world, packed terraces and buzzing nightlife. In spring and autumn the atmosphere is more relaxed: ideal for a leisurely stroll, some shopping and enjoying the restaurants without the stress of booking. In winter it is pleasantly calm, while most businesses simply stay open. For residents that’s a big advantage: you have a lively neighbourhood all year round, without it always being high season.

A berth in Puerto Banús

Do you own a boat, or dream of one? Berths in Puerto Banús are sought after and scarce, especially for larger yachts. They are usually rented for a set period, or the right of use is purchased. Combine a home overlooking the marina with a berth and you have the ultimate Marbella package. The marinas in Marbella town centre, Estepona and Cabopino are also alternatives.
