Living in El Presidente
El Presidente sits on the sea side of the A-7 in eastern Estepona, between Benamara to the west and Atalaya-Isdabe to the east. The Arroyo de dos Hermanas forms its western boundary and Avenida Hacienda del Sol its eastern one. It is one of Estepona’s largest urbanisations, built in phases from the 1980s in traditional Andalusian style: white facades, terracotta roofs, wrought iron and patios. The layout is spacious and private, with plenty of greenery between the homes.
What makes El Presidente special is its gardens: subtropical planting, lawns and cascading water features with fountains inspired by the Alhambra in Granada. Many homes are lived in all year, so the community stays lively in winter too.
Beach and surf
You can walk to Playa Salduna and Playa de El Saladillo, two quiet beaches with dark sand and stones, so water shoes help. On Playa Salduna lies Largos, also called El Largo: a reef break with left and right-hand waves. It is inconsistent and often flat in summer, but winter can bring good sessions. Watch out for rocks and sea urchins. The beach bar on Playa Salduna serves food and drinks and rents out sunbeds.
Homes and prices
Within El Presidente you will find detached villas, townhouses and apartments, all in the same Andalusian style. Many homes are original and could do with updating, which is attractive if you want to put your own stamp on a property. Renovated villas close to the sea sit clearly above that. Because everything was built in the same style, the streetscape stays harmonious even when neighbours renovate.
Daily life and things to check
There are no hotels or shops within the estate itself. For groceries you go to the Isdabe del Sol shopping centre with its Aldi, or to Bel Air and Cancelada. Restaurants are found in the hotels of Benamara and Atalaya and in the beach bars. Atalaya Golf and El Paraíso Golf lie across the A-7. With an older home, always have a building survey done and ask about community fees, as the large gardens and water features need upkeep.
