Living in Benamara
Benamara sits on the sea side of the A-7, east of El Saladillo, between two streams that come down from the mountains: the Arroyo de la Cabra and the Arroyo de dos Hermanas. To the east it borders El Presidente. It is a distinctly residential area of private villas and townhouses. The original Benamara urbanisation lies on the edge of a small protected pine wood, giving the area a green, airy character you no longer often find on this coast.
Life moves slowly. People here want peace and the sea: retirees, families keeping a holiday home and people working from home with a view of the water. The area also has a small chapel, the Capilla de Nuestra Señora de Benamara.
Beach and sea
From Benamara you can walk to quiet beaches with views of Gibraltar and, on clear days, the coast of Morocco. Playa de El Saladillo is a family-friendly beach with dark sand, free parking, toilets and showers, and is largely accessible for people with reduced mobility. The water is often clear, ideal for snorkelling, diving or fishing. Chiringuitos line the shore and the coastal path takes you towards Estepona on foot or by bike.
Homes and prices
Here you mainly buy a villa or a townhouse, often with its own garden. On the seafront is La Perla Blanca, a large frontline complex of apartments. Supply is limited because the area is largely built up and many owners stay for years. According to idealista, the average asking price in the Benamara-Atalaya zone was €4,314 per m² in September 2026, almost 10% higher than a year earlier. Frontline homes are clearly above that.
Daily life
Benamara itself has a few restaurants and beach bars, and the Globales Paraíso Beach and Senator Banús hotels are in the area. For supermarkets you drive a few minutes to Bel Air, Cancelada or the shopping centre near Atalaya. Puerto Banús is about a quarter of an hour away, and the El Paraíso and Atalaya golf courses lie just across the A-7. The AP-7 toll road is close by. Plan on a car: the area is lovely for walks, but not for doing your shopping on foot.
