Living in Los Boliches
Los Boliches was once a separate fishing village. A census in 1822 counted just 25 residents, and in the 1930s most homes were palm-roofed huts along the old road. Today it has merged fully into Fuengirola yet kept its own character: a narrow strip between the sea and the old N-340, with streets full of bars, small shops and apartment blocks.
Spaniards and foreigners live side by side here. In summer many Spanish families arrive from inland, while the rest of the year it is a lively neighbourhood of permanent residents.
Beach, promenade and train
Los Boliches beach is about a kilometre long and some 40 metres wide, between Las Gaviotas and Fuengirola beach. The busy promenade has restaurants, hotels and the Monumento a la Peseta from 2007, said to be the first monument in Spain to the former currency. Los Boliches station is on the C-1 line to the airport and Málaga Centro.
Follow the promenade and you stroll into the centre and the marina of Fuengirola. Bioparc, Sohail castle and the main shopping streets are a little further, yet still easy without a car.
Homes and prices
Here you are almost always buying an apartment, from compact studios in older buildings to spacious frontline units with sea-facing terraces. The price gap is wide. According to idealista, average asking prices in September 2026 were around €3,947 per m² in Los Boliches against €5,214 in the seafront Playa de los Boliches zone.
A step back from the sea, Los Pacos and the Torreblanca hill begin. There you pay less per m² on average and are more likely to find a garden or a townhouse, in exchange for a slightly longer walk to the beach.
What to check
Many buildings date from the 1970s and 1980s, so ask about planned community works, the lift, insulation and any special levies. Parking is tight and a garage space adds real value. For holiday lets, check the tourist licence and the statutes, as owners' communities can ban new holiday rentals.
