Who is it for?
Is Casares Playa right for you?
Ideal if you
- value peace by the sea more than nightlife
- play golf: Finca Cortesín and Doña Julia are minutes away
- want a spacious sea-view apartment without Marbella prices
- are looking for a second home for long stays in spring and autumn
Less suitable if you
- want to live close to Málaga airport (look at Mijas or Benalmádena instead)
- want shops, schools and restaurants on foot (San Luis de Sabinillas or Estepona suit you better)
- expect a lively neighbourhood in winter: many complexes are quiet out of season
Living in Casares Playa
Casares Playa is the narrow coastal strip of Casares municipality, wedged between Estepona and Sabinillas. The white village itself sits on a rock some fifteen kilometres inland; down by the sea, life revolves around beaches, golf and walking. Expect mainly modern developments of apartments and penthouses, townhouses and a handful of villas, often with gardens running almost down to the sand.
The pace is slow. There is no grand promenade or nightlife strip, just beach bars, a few restaurants and plenty of space. Buyers here choose quiet deliberately, with Estepona and Sabinillas a short drive away for shopping and a night out.
Beaches and golf
The Casares beaches are wide and rarely crowded. Playa de la Sal, by the old Torre de la Sal watchtower, is one of the few beaches on this coast where dogs are welcome. Towards Estepona you reach the beach at Bahía de Casares, close to the five-star Finca Cortesín resort.
Finca Cortesín hosted the 2023 Solheim Cup, the biggest event in women's golf. Next door is Doña Julia, an 18-hole hilltop course with views of sea and mountains just above the coast road. Valderrama and the Sotogrande courses are roughly twenty minutes away.
Prices, new builds and rentals
Casares is one of the most affordable municipalities on the western Costa del Sol. According to idealista, the average asking price in August 2026 was around €3,197 per m², roughly half that of Marbella. On the coast, new builds and frontline homes sit well above that average.
New developments appear regularly, often with sea views from the hillsides. If you are thinking of holiday lets, expect a strong summer season and remember a tourist licence is mandatory in Andalusia. Always check the community fees of a complex with gardens and pools.
Getting around and daily life
You live by the A-7 and AP-7, so Estepona is about fifteen minutes away and Sotogrande around twenty. Allow roughly eighty minutes to Málaga airport; Gibraltar is often quicker. International schools are in Estepona and Sotogrande, and a car is essential. In July and August the coast road gets busier, so run your errands early in the day.
