Who is it for?
Is Doña Julia right for you?
Ideal if you
- play golf and like to see the course from your terrace
- want sea views at prices well below Marbella
- want a quiet, green complex for long stays outside the high season
- like being close to both Estepona and Sotogrande
Less suitable if you
- want to live without a car: on the hill everything is a drive away
- want to step straight onto the sand (look at Casares Playa instead)
- want a lively neighbourhood with cafés and shops nearby (San Luis de Sabinillas suits you better)
Living in Doña Julia
Doña Julia sits on the hills of Casares Costa, just inland from the coast road between Estepona and Sabinillas. The area grew up around the golf course of the same name and is made up mainly of developments with apartments, penthouses and townhouses, plus the odd detached villa. Almost everything is terraced into the slope, so many homes look out over the fairways towards the sea.
It is a quiet, green place with many international owners, some of whom spend much of the year here. The developments come alive in summer and are calm and relaxed in winter.
Golf with a view
The Doña Julia course has 18 holes and sits on a hilltop roughly a minute from the A-7. You play with views of sea and mountains, and a sea breeze takes the edge off summer rounds. For variety, Finca Cortesín, host of the 2023 Solheim Cup, is close by and Sotogrande is about twenty minutes away.
Prices and property types
According to idealista, Casares had an average asking price of about €3,197 per m² in August 2026, one of the lowest on the western coast. In Doña Julia you will find older complexes with generous terraces alongside recent new builds with modern finishes. Penthouses with open sea views are the most sought after, while garden apartments are popular with dog owners.
When buying, pay attention to orientation and gradient: some complexes involve a lot of steps. Also ask about community fees and the condition of pools and gardens.
Daily life
For shopping and restaurants you drive to Sabinillas or Estepona, both close by. The Casares beaches are about five minutes below. Allow around eighty minutes to Málaga airport; Gibraltar is often quicker.
For a taste of Spanish village life, the white village of Casares Pueblo, with its Moorish castle ruins and café terraces on the square, is around twenty minutes inland. In early September neighbouring Manilva celebrates the grape harvest at its Fiesta de la Vendimia. International schools are in Estepona and Sotogrande, each roughly fifteen to twenty minutes away. For hospitals and larger shopping centres you head towards Estepona and Marbella.
