Living in central Torremolinos
Torremolinos was part of Málaga until 1988 and has since been an independent municipality with over 70,000 residents. The centre revolves around Calle San Miguel, the pedestrian main street lined with shops, bars and restaurants. At its end stands the Torre de los Molinos, a defensive tower from around 1300 that gave the town its name. From there, the steps of the Cuesta del Tajo lead down to El Bajondillo beach. It is an urban, lively centre where the streets are busy all year round.
Beach, train and going out
Torremolinos station is in the centre, on the C-1 to the airport and Málaga Centro and on to Benalmádena and Fuengirola. By car the airport is about fifteen minutes away. Below lie the beaches of El Bajondillo and Playamar, with the promenade to La Carihuela. For decades Torremolinos has been known as an open, LGBTQ-friendly town, with much of the nightlife around La Nogalera in the centre.
Homes and prices
You are almost always buying an apartment here, often in buildings from the boom years of the 1960s and 1970s. According to idealista, the average asking price in the centre was around €3,840 per m² in September 2026, below the Torremolinos average of €4,199. Moving closer to the sea costs more: in El Bajondillo the average was around €5,084 per m². Over a year, prices in Torremolinos rose by 7.1%, one of the stronger increases on this side of the coast.
In the streets behind Calle San Miguel there are also smaller buildings and the odd old village house, a reminder of the days when Torremolinos was a village of water mills. Such homes have charm but often need a thorough renovation.
What to check
Noise is the main thing to check: around nightlife streets and terraces, evenings can run late. Visit a property on a Friday or Saturday evening too. Many buildings are older, so look at the lift, insulation, air conditioning and planned community works. Holiday letting requires an Andalusian licence, and the community of owners can ban new holiday rentals.
