Living in San Enrique de Guadiaro
San Enrique de Guadiaro is a village in San Roque municipality, on the left bank of the River Guadiaro, directly opposite the village of Guadiaro. It has a fine history: in 1887 the Marquis of Larios founded an agricultural company to farm the fertile valley, and the village grew up around it. The name refers to Enrique Crooke Larios, the company's chairman at the time. Today it is a quiet, genuinely Spanish village where most residents live and work all year round, and where the orange groves and farmland of the valley are never far away.
Location and daily life
San Enrique sits on the A-2102, which links the village north to El Secadero and San Martín del Tesorillo and south to Torreguadiaro and the A-7 and AP-7 junction. The old Puente de Hierro iron bridge takes you across the river to Guadiaro. Sotogrande marina is about five minutes away, Torreguadiaro beach just as quick and Sotogrande International School around ten minutes. An intercity bus between Estepona and La Línea and a San Roque town bus both stop here. In the first week of August the village holds its fiesta.
Prices and homes
According to idealista, the average asking price in the San Enrique-Guadiaro-Pueblo Nuevo zone was around €2,534 per m² in September 2026, up 12.8% on a year earlier but well below the Sotogrande average (€4,082). You will find village houses, townhouses and apartments, and on the edges of the village and in the valley a few villas and country houses. It is a market driven mainly by people who actually live here, which keeps the community stable and lively outside the season.
What to check
With older village houses a thorough survey pays off, and for homes near the river it is wise to check flood risk on the official maps. Also confirm that the property is fully registered in the land registry, which is not always the case with old rural houses. If you do not speak Spanish, San Enrique is a great chance to learn: this is no expat bubble, and that is exactly its charm.
