Who is it for?

Is Riviera del Sol right for you?

Ideal if you

  • want a sea-view apartment or townhouse on a reasonable budget
  • play golf and like living within walking distance of the first tee
  • want peace and greenery, with shops and restaurants still close by
  • want quick access to both Marbella and Fuengirola

Less suitable if you

  • want to live without a car: the area is hilly and spread out
  • want a village centre with squares and terraces (look at La Cala)
  • want new build in a brand-new neighbourhood (look at Calanova Golf)

Living in Riviera del Sol

Riviera del Sol sits on the western side of Mijas Costa, between Calypso and Miraflores, climbing from the coast up into the hills. It is an established neighbourhood with mature gardens, palm trees and quietly winding streets. At the bottom, across the coast road, lies Riviera beach, with chiringuitos that draw people all year round.

The heart of the area is the Miraflores golf course, an 18-hole layout that opened in 1990 and threads between the homes. Many Northern Europeans live here, permanently or for part of the year, alongside Spanish families.

What you can buy here

The choice is mainly apartments and penthouses in smaller complexes with a pool, townhouses with terraces and detached villas higher up the hill, where the sea views are best. Many homes date from the 1980s and 1990s, which leaves room for renovation and added value.

Idealista recorded an average asking price of €3,481 per m² for Riviera del Sol in September 2026. That is 14.3% up on a year earlier, yet still below the Mijas average and well below La Cala.

Daily life

Just off the coast road is a small commercial centre with a supermarket, bars and restaurants, and the coastal bus stops nearby. For everything else you drive to La Cala, a few minutes away, or to Marbella and Fuengirola, each about fifteen minutes. The wooden boardwalk along the beaches is perfect for a morning walk. Hospital Costa del Sol in Marbella is around ten minutes' drive.

If you want more room on the sand, walk or cycle west to Calahonda beach, over four and a half kilometres long. Heading east, you round the headland at Torrenueva into La Cala, with its market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. That gives you two very different atmospheres within minutes, without ending up in busy Fuengirola.

Things to watch

The higher you live, the better the view, but also the steeper the street. In older complexes, check the condition of roofs, pools and lifts, and ask about planned special levies. Homes close to the A-7 can pick up traffic noise.
