Who is it for?
Is Calypso right for you?
Ideal if you
- want an apartment close to the sea, with the beach within walking distance
- prefer a quieter beach to the crowds of Fuengirola
- want to do your daily shopping on foot
- want Calahonda, Riviera del Sol and La Cala all within easy reach
Less suitable if you
- want a wide choice of homes: Calypso is small (also look at Calahonda)
- want a villa with a large garden (look at El Chaparral or Valtocado)
- expect a village centre with squares and terraces (look at La Cala)
Living in Calypso
Calypso is a small urbanisation on the Mijas coast, between Sitio de Calahonda and Riviera del Sol. Coming from Marbella you pass through Calahonda first and then reach Calypso, before Riviera del Sol and Miraflores. The area is compact and sits close to the coast road, which makes it easy to walk to the sea.
The beach here is quieter than those of the bigger resorts, with a chiringuito for lunch or a drink. A supermarket, a pharmacy and a bus stop are close by, and just off the coast road there is a small commercial centre with bars and restaurants.
What you can buy here
Supply is limited and mainly apartments and penthouses in complexes with a pool, some with sea views, plus the odd townhouse. Idealista publishes no separate figure for Calypso. As a guide, in September 2026 the average was €3,706 per m² in Sitio de Calahonda and €3,481 in Riviera del Sol.
Daily life
For bigger shopping trips and restaurants you have Calahonda on one side and Riviera del Sol and La Cala on the other, all within minutes. The wooden boardwalk takes you along the beaches on foot. Marbella is about fifteen minutes away, Hospital Costa del Sol around ten and the airport about 35.
Things to watch
Because the area sits close to the coast road, an apartment's exact position matters: sea side or hill side, and how far from the road. In older complexes, ask about renovations and community fees. Holiday letting requires an Andalusian licence, and some communities restrict short lets.
Calypso's small size is both its charm and its limitation. Homes do not come up often, so if you are searching here specifically, it pays to share your wishes in advance and to look at the neighbouring areas too.
