- want to reach shops and cafés on foot
- want a village atmosphere (look at La Cala or Mijas Pueblo)
Living in El Chaparral
El Chaparral sits on the hills on the inland side of the coast road, between La Cala de Mijas and the Calaburras headland. It is a quiet, green urbanisation built around the Chaparral Golf Club. The 18-hole course was laid out in 1991 by the Málaga architect Pepe Gancedo, who later redesigned it completely; it reopened in 2006. From the clubhouse, an Andalusian-style hacienda, you look out over pine trees and the Mediterranean.
What you can buy here
Supply is mainly detached villas with a garden and pool, often with sea views, plus townhouses and apartments in smaller complexes along the course. Idealista recorded an average asking price of €4,567 per m² for the Calaburra and Chaparral zone in September 2026, 10.4% more than a year earlier. That makes it the most expensive zone in Mijas after La Cala.
Beach and daily life
Across the coast road lies the small El Chaparral beach by Playamarina, known as a naturist beach. The long beach at La Cala is a few minutes to the west, and the beaches of El Faro a little to the east. For groceries, restaurants and schools you drive to La Cala or Fuengirola, both around five to ten minutes. Málaga Airport is about half an hour away. Fuengirola also has the commuter train to the airport and Málaga, a marina, Sohail castle and Bioparc, handy when you have children or visitors.
Things to watch
The hills are steep, so look at access to the plot and the number of steps in and around the house. Homes just above the coast road can pick up traffic noise. With villas, ask about the condition of the pool and technical installations, and check that all extensions are licensed.
