Living in La Cala Hills
La Cala Hills is an established residential area on the hills behind La Cala de Mijas, on the road to the golf valley. It is made up of several gated complexes with well-kept tropical gardens, pools and often security. Thanks to its south-facing position many homes look out over the Mediterranean, and at the back over the green La Cala Golf valley.
It feels like a middle ground: you are not in the busy centre of La Cala, but not tucked away inland either. During the day it is quiet around the pools, and at sunset the sea below your terrace changes colour. Your neighbours are often international, and some owners split their time between here and home.
What you can buy here
Supply is mainly two- and three-bedroom apartments, raised ground-floor homes with gardens and penthouses with roof terraces, often between 90 and 125 m². Now and then a small new development appears. Idealista publishes no separate figure for La Cala Hills. For comparison, in September 2026 the average was €4,613 per m² in La Cala village and €3,505 in the La Cala Golf zone.
Daily life
For groceries, restaurants, the Wednesday and Saturday market and the beach you drive a few minutes down to La Cala. Calanova Golf is close by, La Cala Resort a little further up the valley. Calahonda, Fuengirola, Mijas Pueblo and Marbella are all within about fifteen minutes, the airport about half an hour.
Things to watch
Complexes differ in age, upkeep and community fees, so compare carefully what security, gardens and pools cost. Check whether the sea view is protected or could later be blocked by new building. With a ground-floor apartment, look at privacy and light, and for holiday letting ask about the licence and the statutes.
