Who is it for?
Is El Faro right for you?
Ideal if you
- want sea views and the beach at the foot of the hill

- love walking by the sea, with a lighthouse and an old watchtower as backdrop
Less suitable if you
- want a flat street: the neighbourhood sits on a steep hill
- have a budget below the Mijas average (look at Las Lagunas)
- want your own village centre with squares and terraces (look at La Cala)
Living in El Faro
El Faro is the urbanisation on the Calaburras headland, the easternmost stretch of the Mijas coast, just before Fuengirola. The name comes from the lighthouse at the foot of the hill. A lighthouse has stood here since the nineteenth century; the current 23-metre tower dates from the last century. Above it, in the middle of the neighbourhood, stands the Torre de Calaburras, a watchtower from 1575 that has been a protected monument since 1985.
The neighbourhood climbs steeply from the coast road. As a result many homes enjoy open views over the sea, on clear days far along the coast. It is a quiet residential area, with no big hotels or nightlife.
What you can buy here
You find detached villas with terraces on several levels, townhouses and apartments in small complexes, usually with a pool. Idealista recorded an average asking price of €4,567 per m² in September 2026 for the Calaburra and Chaparral zone, which includes El Faro, 10.4% more than a year earlier. Sea views and the proximity of Fuengirola explain that level.
Beaches and daily life
Below the headland lies El Faro beach, with over a kilometre of sand, and a little further east El Charcón beach. For supermarkets, schools, doctors and the train to the airport and Málaga you drive a few minutes into Fuengirola. La Cala de Mijas is about ten minutes to the west.
Things to watch
The slopes are steep, so look at access, parking and the number of steps. Homes close to the coast road can pick up traffic noise, while the higher streets are quieter but further from the beach. With multi-level villas, have the retaining walls and drainage checked.
