Living in La Cala Golf

From the La Cala exit on the A-7 you drive about eight kilometres into the hills, and a green valley opens up at the foot of the Sierra de Mijas. This is La Cala Resort, spread over roughly 400 hectares: three 18-hole courses, America, Asia and Europa, a short practice course, a golf academy and a four-star hotel with a spa and 107 rooms.

Around the courses lie residential areas that give way further inland to rural Lagar Martell. It feels more like countryside than a resort here: quiet, very green, and at night a starry sky rather than street lights.

The three courses were designed by the American architect Cabell B. Robinson, and Asia is the oldest. They wind over hilly terrain with marked changes in elevation, which makes them more demanding than the flat courses on the coast. Residents usually play with a buggy and enjoy views of the mountains and, on some holes, the sea.

What you can buy here

You find apartments and penthouses overlooking the fairways, townhouses in gated complexes and detached villas on larger plots. Part of the supply is recent or new build. Idealista recorded an average asking price of €3,505 per m² for the La Cala Golf and Lagar Martell zone in September 2026, only 1.6% higher than a year earlier. That makes the golf valley clearly cheaper than the village of La Cala down on the seafront.

Daily life

The resort covers breakfast, a drink or a massage, but for groceries, schools and doctors you drive down to La Cala, about ten minutes. Marbella is around twenty minutes away, Málaga Airport about 35. Calanova Golf sits on the road to the coast, so golfers have four courses within a few minutes.

Things to watch

With an apartment, check what the community fees cover, especially in complexes with security and large gardens. With villas on the edge of the resort, look at the planning status of the plot. And bear in mind that the valley is cooler than the coast in winter.
