Living in Torrequebrada
Torrequebrada sits on the hills of Benalmádena Costa, between the golf course and the sea, west of Puerto Marina. It is a sprawling urbanisation that has grown since the 1970s around the golf course and the casino. You live in green surroundings with plenty of south-facing terraces and wide views along the coast. The community is international: families drawn by the schools, golfers, retirees from northern Europe and Spaniards from Málaga with a second home here.
Within Torrequebrada the sub-areas differ a lot. Around the golf course and in Nueva Torrequebrada it is green and clearly residential. Closer to the coast road there are more apartment blocks and hotels, and more holidaymakers. Puerto Marina and the sandy beaches of Benalmádena Costa are a few minutes' drive away.
Golf, school and casino
Club de Golf Torrequebrada opened in 1976 to a design by Pepe Gancedo. The course has wide fairways, lakes, elevated greens and views of the sea and the mountains, and it hosted the Spanish Open in 1979. For families, Benalmádena International College is a major reason to live here: founded in 1997, it follows the British curriculum from early years to sixth form. Casino Torrequebrada, opened in 1979, is a well-known landmark on the coast road. The British College in Torremuelle is a few minutes' drive away.

There is a broad mix: apartments in complexes with pools on the slopes, townhouses such as those in Cortijo Torrequebrada, and detached villas overlooking the golf course or the sea. Homes with open sea views or right on the course usually sit above that.
What to check
The area is hilly and large, so you will almost always need a car. With apartments, keep an eye on community fees, especially in complexes with large gardens and several pools.
