Who is it for?
Is Mijas Golf right for you?
Ideal if you
- play golf and want a classic, fairly flat course next door
- want more space for your money than on the coast
- have children at St Anthony's College, which is close by
- want quick access to the airport and the train in Fuengirola
Less suitable if you
- want to reach the beach on foot (look at La Cala or El Faro)
- want a village feel with squares and terraces (look at Mijas Pueblo)
- expect open sea views from every room: many homes look out over greenery and hills
Living in Mijas Golf
Mijas Golf lies in the valley between Fuengirola and the Sierra de Mijas, along the old road to Coín. It is one of the oldest golf destinations on the Costa del Sol. The first course, Los Lagos, opened in 1976 and was designed by Robert Trent Jones. Los Olivos followed eight years later. Together they form a 36-hole complex. Los Lagos is long and fairly flat, with nine lakes in play on eleven holes. Los Olivos is shorter, with narrower fairways.
The same valley is home to Santana Golf and the nine-hole Cerrado del Águila course, so golfers have plenty of choice within minutes.
What you can buy here
Around the courses you find complexes with apartments and penthouses, townhouses with gardens and detached villas, many with a pool. Idealista recorded an average asking price of €3,143 per m² for Mijas Golf in September 2026, 5.0% more than a year earlier. That is one of the lowest levels in Mijas, which makes the valley attractive if you want space.
Daily life
Fuengirola, with its beaches, shops and the train to Málaga and the airport, is about ten minutes away. Las Lagunas, with supermarkets and services, is even closer. St Anthony's College, a British school for ages three to eighteen, is on the same road to Coín. The airport is about 25 to 30 minutes away. Because the valley borders Las Lagunas, the most populated part of Mijas, you live closer to everyday Spanish life here than in the big tourist urbanisations on the coast.
Things to watch
In summer the valley can be warmer than the coast, while winter nights are cooler. A home with good insulation and air conditioning is therefore a plus. Also check the distance to busy access roads. If you live right on a fairway, the odd stray ball comes with the territory, so look at where the terrace and pool sit.
