What is Finca Cortesín?
Finca Cortesín is a golf and hotel resort in the municipality of Casares, on the west side of the Costa del Sol. According to Golf Monthly it is on the Carretera de Casares, kilometre 2, a short distance from the coast. The resort consists of a five-star hotel with 67 suites, a spa, a beach club, several restaurants and an 18-hole golf course.
Around the golf course, villas, townhouses and apartments have been built. They are often large homes with plenty of privacy, in a setting known for its greenery and calm.
The golf course
The course was designed by Cabell Robinson and, according to Golf Monthly, opened in 2007. It is a par 72 of 7,357 yards from the back tees. Finca Cortesín hosted several editions of the Volvo World Match Play Championship and, in September 2023, the Solheim Cup, the biggest women's golf tournament between Europe and the United States.
For golfers it is one of the best-known addresses in Spain. If you prefer to play a different course, nearby you have, among others Doña Julia and the courses of Sotogrande.

According to Golf Monthly, Gibraltar airport is 15 to 20 minutes away by car and Málaga airport 45 to 60 minutes. Estepona and Sotogrande are a short drive away, with shops, schools and restaurants. The historic village of Casares lies inland in the hills.
What to look out for when buying
With a home in a resort, ask about the community fees, what they include and whether you have to become a member of the golf club. With a villa, it pays to have the condition of the pool, garden and installations checked.
With every purchase, request the nota simple and check that all buildings are legally registered and what the community fees are. Proper legal check are part of every purchase. If you want to rent out, first check whether there is a holiday rental licence . On top of the price, allow for roughly 8 to 9% buying costs for an existing home (7% transfer tax in Andalusia, plus notary, registry and lawyer) and about 12 to 13% on new build (10% VAT and 1.2% stamp duty).
