Living in Sierra Blanca

Sierra Blanca sits in the foothills of the mountain range of the same name, above the Golden Mile and next to Nagüeles and Cascada de Camoján. It is one of Marbella's most exclusive residential areas. The estate is fully gated, with security patrols day and night and streets largely reserved for residents. Marbella town centre is about four kilometres away.

Density is low and spacious: around three hundred homes on large plots, mostly villas ranging from traditional Andalusian to strikingly contemporary, plus a few apartment complexes. Thanks to the elevation, many villas enjoy sweeping views along the coast, as far as Gibraltar and Africa on clear days.

What sets Sierra Blanca apart from other villa areas on the coast is the mix of seclusion and proximity. You drive through the barrier and within minutes you are in Marbella's shopping streets or at a beach club on the Golden Mile. Yet at home you mostly hear birds and the wind in the pines. Few places in Marbella strike that balance so convincingly.

Who lives here and what is life like?

Sierra Blanca attracts international families, entrepreneurs and people who live here much of the year and value discretion. Daily life moves between home, school and the Golden Mile: the beaches and beach clubs are about five minutes by car, and Marbella old town and Puerto Banús are also a short drive.

For families the location is ideal: the British International School of Marbella and Swans International School are in neighbouring Nagüeles. On some summer evenings you can hear the Starlite festival concerts in the distance, held in the old Nagüeles quarry.

What to watch when buying

Security and upkeep of the estate are paid through community fees; always ask how much they are and what they cover. The terrain is hilly, so look at access to the house, the number of steps and how much level garden there really is. With older villas, a thorough technical and legal check is essential, especially if you plan to renovate or extend.
