Living in La Campana
La Campana sits in Nueva Andalucía, against the slopes of La Concha, about two kilometres from Puerto Banús. It grew up in the 1960s and 1970s as housing for the workers who built and maintained the marina and the luxury developments in the valley. From those roots came a self-contained neighbourhood with its own rhythm: the bakery as the morning meeting point, children on the squares and neighbours who know each other by name.
Today third-generation Spanish families live alongside young European professionals, remote workers and retirees from all over. It is one of the few places in the golf valley where life does not stop when summer ends.

The housing is mainly apartments and townhouses: older blocks with shared courtyards, newer gated complexes with a pool and underground parking, and the odd villa on the edge of the area. The Las Brisas, Los Naranjos and Aloha golf courses are round the corner, and Puerto Banús is a twenty-minute walk or five minutes by taxi.
What sets La Campana apart from the rest of the valley is that you can genuinely leave the car at home. You pick up bread in the morning, have a café con leche at the bar and do your shopping on foot. In the evening the terraces fill with locals rather than tourists. If you want to learn or practise Spanish, this is the ideal setting.
What to check
Parking can be tight in the older streets, so your own garage or space is a real plus. With older buildings, check the state of facades, roofs and lifts, and ask whether major works are planned. Position within the area matters too: around the squares it is sociable but sometimes noisy, while the higher edges are quieter and sometimes have mountain views.
