About Cala Serena Sun

A house rather than an apartment, with sea views and no garden upkeep: that is why many families look at La Cala de Mijas. Cala Serena Sun offers exactly that. The gated complex has 68 terraced and corner houses with 3 or 4 bedrooms. According to our data, all the homes in the list have sea views, and the project description says that all houses face south. Prices range from €670,000 to €897,000.

There are four types in our list. The smallest terraced house has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 151 m² built, with a 17 m² terrace. A three-bedroom corner house is 155 m² but has a 90 m² terrace. With 4 bedrooms, the terraced house has 221 m² with a 78 m² terrace, and the corner house 223 m², again with a 90 m² terrace. The larger types get a solarium. Some homes have a basement with private parking, storage or extra living space; others park on site.

The communal areas will include landscaped gardens, a large pool, a gym, a sauna, a spa and a chill-out area. Every home has an energy rating of B. The project is still off-plan: completion is set for December 2028 and there is no show home. Another source mentions a build year of 2024 and completion in 2025, which does not match our data. We therefore request the current construction status and phasing in writing.

Location

La Cala de Mijas is the most village-like stretch of the Mijas coast: a former fishing village with a beach promenade and lots of small restaurants. The project sits on a slope behind the village, at around 75 metres above sea level. That height explains the sea views, but also means the way home is uphill. The A-7 and AP-7 motorways are close by, so Marbella and Fuengirola are easy to reach. According to the project description, the nearest golf courses are 2 km away.

ALDI is an 11-minute walk away. La Cala beach by El Torreón is a 21-minute walk or a 4-minute drive. Fuengirola town centre is a 14-minute drive, Marbella's old town 25. St Anthony's College is 11 minutes away, Hospital Costa del Sol 18. Málaga airport is 35 minutes away.

We will send you the exact location and the address of the sales office when you request Privé access or book a viewing.

Sun, light and views

Here the sun rises at 7:00 on 21 June and sets at 21:40, giving 14.7 hours of daylight. On 21 December you still have 9.7 hours, with the midday sun at 30° above the horizon. Cala Serena Sun sits at around 75 metres above sea level.

All the homes in our list have sea views, and according to the project description they face south. How wide those views are varies from row to row; we go through that with you on the site plans.

Homes and finishes

The kitchens are fully fitted with built-in appliances. The bathrooms get washbasins, mirrors, shower screens and underfloor heating. Every home gets an armoured front door and full air conditioning. The project description mentions a mini pool for some homes, but we don't see one for any of the homes in our list. We therefore request the plans and finishes list for each home, and check that the basement, solarium and any pool are expressly stated in the purchase contract. The bank guarantee on every payment is part of that too.

Payment schedule

As with most new builds on the Costa del Sol, you pay in instalments: a reservation deposit, a portion on signing the purchase contract and during construction, and the balance at the deed signing. Every payment before completion must be covered by a bank guarantee. We will send you the exact payment schedule for Cala Serena Sun through Privé.

Our honest verdict on Cala Serena Sun

Strengths

  • Sea views and south-facing orientation for all homes in our list.
  • 15% below the median price per m² for new builds in Mijas.
  • Corner houses with a 90 m² terrace, plenty of room for dining outdoors and sunbathing.
  • Spa, sauna and pool within a gated complex.
  • La Cala beach a 4-minute drive away, supermarket an 11-minute walk.

Points to consider

  • Completion not until December 2028; you pay deposits on an off-plan house.
  • Beach a 21-minute walk away, and the way back is uphill.
  • Terraced houses have only 20 m² of land, no real garden.
  • Basement and private pool apply to some homes only; get it in writing.
  • Málaga airport a 35-minute drive away.

Who is Cala Serena Sun right for?

Cala Serena Sun suits families and couples who want a proper house with sea views, but without the upkeep of a villa garden. The formula also works well for long summers with children or grandchildren. It is less suitable if you want to walk to the beach every day, or don't want to wait until the end of 2028.

Why buy through Imagine Marbella?

With us you pay exactly the same price as buying direct from the developer. Our fee is paid by the seller, not by you. What you get on top is what makes the difference.

  • Independent. We are not tied to any development. We compare the entire market and tell you honestly when a project is not right for you.
  • Stronger at the negotiating table. Whenever there is room to negotiate, on price, payment schedule, finishes or a parking space, we know the market, the sales figures and the developers. We defend your interests; the seller defends theirs.
  • Free extra services. We check licences, bank guarantees and specifications, provide legal support in your own language and plan viewings around your travel dates.
  • Beyond the handover. We follow the construction, the handover and the after-sales with you, so you are never on your own.

How far is Cala Serena Sun from the beach?
