Who is it for?
Is Valle del Sol right for you?
Ideal if you
- want a large plot and plenty of privacy without living far from the coast
- would like to renovate an older villa or replace it with a contemporary home
- are moving with children, with Laude San Pedro a few minutes away
- play golf and want Guadalmina and the courses of Benahavís and Estepona nearby
Less suitable if you
- want the beach and restaurants within walking distance (look at San Pedro de Alcántara or Guadalmina Baja instead)
- want a turnkey home in a gated, staffed complex (consider Guadalmina Alta)
- have no patience for legal checks, which matter even more on rural plots
Living in Valle del Sol
Valle del Sol lies in Marbella municipality, inland of San Pedro de Alcántara and close to Guadalmina Alta, towards the foothills of the Sierra de las Nieves. It is not a gated resort but a residential area of villas and fincas on generous plots, often over a thousand square metres. Mature gardens, tall trees and mountain views give it a rural feel, while the coast is only a few minutes away.
Many homes date back a few decades and are gradually being renovated or replaced by contemporary villas. Residents are mostly families and full-time residents who deliberately choose space over a busy address.
Schools, golf and daily life
For families the location is strong. Laude San Pedro International College is a few minutes away, while Aloha College and Swans International School are within about fifteen minutes by car. Golfers play at Guadalmina, Marbella's oldest golf club, with the courses of Benahavís and Estepona close by. Shopping, the boulevard and San Pedro's old centre are round the corner, and Puerto Banús is about ten minutes away.
A car is essential
Public transport is almost non-existent here, so every family member who wants to get around independently needs a car or scooter. In return you get silence: crickets in the evening rather than traffic or bar terraces. There is no nightlife, so for that you drive to San Pedro or Puerto Banús. The beach is a drive too, but a short one: the beaches and seafront promenade of San Pedro and Guadalmina are close by, perfect for a morning walk or a weekend lunch by the sea.
What to check
This is the key point in Valle del Sol: some plots have historically had a rural (rústico) classification. So always have an independent lawyer confirm that the house, pool and every extension are licensed and properly registered, and what you may build or alter in future. Also check the water, sewage and electricity connections and the state of the access road. A big garden is wonderful, but budget for substantial upkeep, from irrigation and pruning to pool maintenance.
