Living in Hacienda Las Chapas

Hacienda Las Chapas lies north of the A-7, between Elviria and Cabopino, above the beachside area of Marbesa. It is one of East Marbella's large villa estates, laid out with generous plots and low-rise homes to preserve as much woodland as possible. You notice it straight away: umbrella pines over the streets, plenty of greenery between houses and, from the higher parts, views over the sea.

Homes are almost entirely detached villas, often on plots of 1,000 m² or more. Styles range from classic Andalusian cortijos to sleek modern villas with lots of glass. Many older houses are being renovated or replaced by new builds, and building plots come up from time to time. A good share of the streets are gated or patrolled.

Nature, beach and golf

At the foot of the hill are the beaches of Marbesa and Cabopino, with Cabopino marina a few minutes away. Beyond it lies the protected Dunas de Artola natural monument, where wooden boardwalks lead through the dunes to the sixteenth-century Torre de los Ladrones. Golfers have Santa María Golf on the western edge of the estate and Cabopino Golf close by. If you like running, cycling or walking the dog, the woods and coastline give you plenty of room. In July and August the area around Cabopino marina gets busy; out of season it is wonderfully calm.

Daily life

For groceries, restaurants and banks you drive a few minutes to the centre of Elviria. The English International College and the bilingual Colegio Las Chapas are five to ten minutes away, the Deutsche Schule in La Mairena about ten. Marbella town is about fifteen minutes away, Málaga airport roughly 45. It suits people who want peace and quiet but like to keep everything within reach.

With villas from the seventies and eighties, a building survey is no luxury: check the roof, the pipework, the pool and the permits for any later extensions. Check the plot boundaries in the land registry too. Large villas with sea views sit well above that.
