Living in Cortijo Blanco
Cortijo Blanco sits on the eastern side of San Pedro de Alcántara, between the A-7 and the sea. The Guadaiza river forms the boundary with Nueva Andalucía and Puerto Banús. The name refers to the white farmhouse that once dominated this stretch of coast. Until the mid-twentieth century this was farmland with citrus groves; only as Marbella grew in the 1960s and 1970s did it become a low-density villa area.
That history still shows. The streets are narrow and green, the plots generous, and most homes are traditional Andalusian villas, some of them ready for renovation. In between stand modern villas built on older plots, plus a few low-rise apartment complexes that offer a more affordable way in.
The beach and the walk to Banús
Playa de Cortijo Blanco is roughly 500 metres long and forms the eastern end of San Pedro's long beach. It is wide, with a couple of beach clubs and chiringuitos. Head west along the sea and you are soon in San Pedro; head east and Puerto Banús is about a twenty-minute walk, or five minutes by taxi.
That is what makes Cortijo Blanco special. You live on a quiet street where the evenings are mostly crickets, yet two completely different worlds are within walking distance: everyday Spanish life in San Pedro on one side, the restaurants, yachts and boutiques of Puerto Banús on the other. Many owners leave the car parked for days. The community is mixed: Spanish families who have had a house here for decades, Northern Europeans and buyers from further afield.
Daily life
For everyday needs you head into San Pedro: supermarkets, the Thursday market, pharmacies and the boulevard with its playgrounds. Laude San Pedro International College is in town and Aloha College in Nueva Andalucía is quick to reach. Golfers are a few minutes' drive from Guadalmina or the Nueva Andalucía golf valley.
What to watch: beach parking is limited in summer, as there is no dedicated car park. With older villas, check the structural condition and the permits for later extensions. And because the area is small and largely built up, good homes rarely come to market. If you want to buy here, it helps to be ready to decide quickly.
